Pat. No. 4173068 Bolster Slide Lock Knife – HOW TO
on September 30th, 2014 at 8:51 amSteel Sahlute to stellar locking mechanisms!!!!
I remember when I scored my first Imperial shell handled “trick knife” about 3 years ago – I tried and tried and tried to open that sumbich (in my best Sherriff Buford impersonation) and I finally reached for the needlenose pliers and started yanking!
You gotta be freaking kidding me I thought….what the? So, I tossed the knife….yes sir right into the waste basket never to be seen or used again!
Later I found the secret to opening that knife.
Over this past weekend I scored a small mother-lode of knives. After cleaning and sorting I stumbled upon the flashback of the Imperial trick knife as I couldn’t figure out how to release the lock once the blade was in full open position. I thought to myself…..”calm down Ace, don’t throw these in the garbage!” Keep trying.”
I finally figured out how to use the Bolster Slide Lock Cargill Pat. No. 4173068 on these 2 Frost Cutlery Knives! Normally I don’t pay any attention to Frost Cutlery products, but these must have been produced early on in Frost Cutlery creations as the path has evolved into lower production cheap sh!t knives!!
The bone and stag on these were magnifEEEco so I stayed with trying to release the blade and figure out the knife locking mechanism.
Simply put….you push up on the front tang side bolster and gently apply pressure to the spine of the blade. It’ll take a couple tries, but you’ll get it. I have enclosed a few pics, some where you cann actually see the bolster slid up and the liner exposed!
Steel Sahlue!
